Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that accelerates the body’s natural healing response. By delivering acoustic sound waves to targeted areas, it boosts blood circulation and nutrient delivery to damaged soft tissues. This surge in blood flow breaks down scar tissue and encourages the formation of healthy tissue fibers, effectively reducing chronic pain and restoring mobility to injured tendons and ligaments.

How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?
Shockwave therapy uses a handheld device to deliver high-energy sound waves directly to injured tissues. These acoustic pulses trigger a biological healing response through three main steps:
• Stimulating Tissue Repair: The acoustic waves create controlled micro-trauma in the target area. This reaction prompts the body to boost collagen production, break down painful calcium deposits, and grow new blood vessels and nerve fibers.
• Flushing Out Pain & Swelling: The pulses disperse Substance P—a primary chemical involved in transmitting pain signals. Reducing this compound quickly lowers local pain levels and prevents fluid buildup.
• Accelerating Recovery: By increasing nutrient-rich blood flow while suppressing pain and swelling, shockwave therapy restores joint and tissue mobility significantly faster.
Shockwave Therapy is generally well-tolerated. Patients may feel a range of discomfort during the session, primarily because the target area is already inflamed. Finding an affected area can mimic/cause Referral Pain (Which is generally an indicator the treatment area is appropriate).
• What Influences Discomfort: Pain varies based on individual tolerance, severity of the injury, and proximity to bone (areas near bone tend to feel more sensitive).
• Why Pain Decreases Quickly: Within a few minutes, the treatment disperses Substance-P, a chemical that transmits pain signals—naturally numbing the area.
While the treatment itself can be Temporarily uncomfortable most people report improvement in Pain/Chronic Pain and Range of Motion immediately and in days following treatment. Soreness similar to Muscle soreness following a massage or Rolf Work can be expected.
An individual Session can Last anywhere from 5 to 25 Minutes (Shockwave can be added to Rolf and Massage Sessions). Its Therapeutic Benefits can last Several months to even Years.
Full Course: A single Session can offer Immediate relief - Reduction in pain and Increased Range of Motion. Multiple Session are generally required for Longer Lasting Benefits. The number of Treatments varies based on the severity and the longevity of the affected area.
